Last week designers rolled out some beautiful looks on the runway for New York Fashion Week, but how do style icons like Tracy Reese & Zac Posen bring fashion into their personal space? Check out these designers’ homes and how they decorated them. We can’t believe how similar they are to the collections!
Tracy Reese brings the same magic touch to her home decor as she does to her clothing designs. Reese explains, “In my personal spaces I try to layer the things I love: strong color, bold pattern, rich texture, and a bit of romance.” (Elle Decor) Her Manhattan apartment’s living room boasts beautiful chinoiserie wallpaper, patterned pillows with colors pulled from the paper, and a large dark purple velvet couch to anchor the space. There’s an element of contemporary sweetness to it, similar to what she brought to her Spring 2014 ready-to-wear collection. Her country home upstate reflects a more relaxed, playful vibe with punchy florals and bright red toile.
Alexander Wang’s collection for NYFW echos his New York apartment, a darkly sexy & luxurious space with a streak of humor to it. Leather, suede and a stringent black and white color scheme create a graphically bold living room and fashion line that are both equally hard to resist.
Zac Posen seems to be building a brand for himself beyond that of his fashion line. His recent work as a judge on Project Runway has viewers whispering that he’s a quirkier Michael Kors with just as many witty quips (“It looks like you sat on a pool toy and it deflated,” says Posen of a not-so-runway-worthy look from a contestant). Also, in 2010 he designed a luxury duplex apartment at 16 West 21st Street in New York City that still feels relevant three years later and definitely reflects his latest fashion collection for Spring 2014. Who knows, we may see a home collection from him soon!
Fashion veteran Carolina Herrera brings the same effortless grace to her home as she does to her clothing designs. A combination of classic pieces with a modern angle and vibrant 18th-century antiques, Carolina’s home nods to both the past and present.
