October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and this year marks 25 years of promoting awareness, education, and empowerment. In 1993 Evelyn Lauder, Senior Vice President at the Estee Lauder Company, founded the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and began the pink ribbon campaign. This month we urge you to “Think Pink” and help increase breast cancer awareness and raise funds to help fight the disease once and for all.
SUITE New York has launched their own Pink campaign this year, the Pink Swan Project. These fabulously designed “Swan” chairs will be auctioned off at the end of the month on Charity Buzz. All proceeds benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
New York designer Campion Platt knows a thing or two about design having put his mark on the Mercer Hotel in New York and Hollywood’s iconic Chateau Marmont. The fabric he used for his version of the Swan Chair is reminiscent of our Phillip Jeffries’ Rock Candy Wallcovering in Pink Cotton Candy.
This Southampton, New York home designed by Charlotte Moss is perfect for those who are looking for a little subtly.
Looking for something similar, try this beautiful Robert Allen fabric below.
New York-based designer Katie Ridder says “Pink is a feel-good color. All hues of pink are pleasing to me, and they’re also a wonderful backdrop for contrasting color.”
Ikat still reigns supreme and you can take a page from some of our top designers like Ridder (above) and Martyn Lawrence Bullard and try using paper-backed fabric on walls to create texture and add interest to a room like the one above.

We are big fans of Kelly Wearstler who claims “Everyone looks good in a pink room”.
She chose an ikat fabric for this chair above. For a similar look try our Duralee Fabric in Cedarberry.
This month I will be attending The Breast Cancer Research Foundation’s Symposium and Awards Luncheon at The Waldorf-Astoria on Wednesday, October 26th. I’ve been going for many years in support of my aunt Betsy S. Green who is one of the co-chairs for the luncheon.
